Resumo: Homeopathy currently represents, in Brazil, a medical, pharmaceutical and veterinarian specialty. However, its practice by non-doctors has been culturally accepted in health services for the population, belonging to the national scenery since the Empire times. It is responsible for an accessible and resolutive service, usually directed to a deprived and unaided population. Its background comes forward with a strong religious involvement. The object of this study is a Long-Stay Institution for the Elderly (ILPI), managed by a religious woman who utilizes complementary practices in the elderly health care, featuring the use of popular homeopathy. The research project has been submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee from the University of Passo Fundo, under the protocol number 440/2011. This is a single and investigative case study of a current phenomenon, in a real and daily life context, which aims to acknowledge the practice of popular homeopathy in the referred institute. The results contain the description of the effectiveness of this therapeutics, which empirically follows the Hahnemannian principles. The study has allowed recognizing the practice of popular homeopathy by non-doctors, as well as the perception from the professionals who work in the institution concerning this form of health service, considered as a punctual initiative, not thoroughly comprehended by the majority of the professionals.

Contudo, a sua prática por não médicos tem sido culturalmente aceita no atendimento à saúde da população, fazendo parte do cenário nacional desde os tempos do Império. É responsável por um atendimento acessível e resolutivo, geralmente dirigido a uma população carente e desassistida. Apresenta como pano de fundo um forte envolvimento religioso. O objeto deste estudo é uma Instituição de Longa Permanência para Idosos (ILPI), gerenciada por uma religiosa que utiliza práticas complementares no atendimento à saúde dos idosos, onde se destaca o uso da homeopatia popular. O projeto de pesquisa foi submetido e aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade de Passo Fundo, sob o protocolo n° 440/2011. Trata-se de um Estudo de Caso único e investigativo de um fenômeno atual, em um contexto de vida real e diária, com o objetivo de conhecer o exercício da homeopatia popular na ILPI. Obteve como resultado a descrição da efetivação desta terapêutica que segue, de modo empírico, os princípios hahnemannianos. O estudo permitiu conhecer a prática da homeopatia popular exercitada por não médico, bem como a percepção,por parte dos profissionais que atuam na ILPI, a respeitodesta forma de atendimento, observando ser uma iniciativa pontual e não bem compreendida pela maior parte dos profissionais da instituição.Made available in DSpace on 2018-01-10T18:10:14Z (GMT).
