Resumo: The elderly population has increased intensively throughout the world. Because of this rapid growth the elderly as well as living longer can become vulnerable and susceptible to developing chronic diseases and functional, requiring care. Whatever the scenario, the elderly caregiver feel about their physical and mental health reflections of their work in their daily life. The survey was conducted in the municipality of Erebango-RS, targeting population twenty elderly living condition to take care of other elderly. The study design was a qualitative and quantitative approach, and aimed to describe the experiences of a group of elderly caregivers of adult or elderly dependent or disabled. Data collection was carried out through home visits using a questionnaire that investigated the socio demographic issues and health conditions, the Zarit Burden Interview Scale that assessed the burden of the caregiver interview with guiding questions that were transcribed in full and analyzed using themselves to thematic analysis. The results met the objectives, addressing the livings of elderly caregivers. The results showed that alone take care of a family is not an easy task and that caregivers face several feelings that lead to physical, emotional and social burden. Devido a esse crescimento acelerado os idosos além de viverem mais, podem se tornar vulneráveis e susceptíveis à desenvolver doenças crônicas e funcionais, necessitando de cuidados. Não importa qual seja o cenário, o idoso cuidador sente sobre sua saúde física e mental os reflexos de sua tarefa no cotidiano de sua vida. A pesquisa foi realizada no município de Erebango-RS, tendo como população alvo vinte idosos que vivem a condição de cuidar de outro idoso. O delineamento do estudo foi de abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa, e teve como objetivo descrever as vivências de um grupo de idosos cuidadores de pessoa adulta ou idosa dependente ou incapacitada. A coleta de dados foi realizada através de visitas domiciliares utilizando um questionário que investigou as questões sócio demográfica e as condições de saúde, a Escala Zarit Burden Interview que avaliou a sobrecarga da cuidadora entrevista com questões norteadoras que foi transcrita na íntegra e os dados analisados utilizando-se a técnica de análise temática. Os resultados atenderam os objetivos, abordando as vivencias de idosos cuidadores. Os resultados evidenciaram que assumir sozinho o cuidado de um familiar não é uma tarefa fácil e que os cuidadores enfrentam diversos sentimentos que acarretam em sobrecarga física, emocional e social.
