Resumo: The present study combines both bibliographic and field research with the aim of providing subsidies to mediators of reading about the formation of multimedia readers, able to read different types of text, in different languages. The field research consisted on a collection of data from multimedia reading practices developed in the Reference Center for Literature and Multimedia of the University of Passo Fundo/RS Mundo da Leitura , an analysis of records in specific forms, and subsequent interviews with their monitors, as well as visits to a municipal school in the mentioned city for observation on their daily activities and application of questionnaires to teachers and students. In the research here presented, reading is understood as a social and a cultural practice, which, supported by a competent mediation, gives the ones involved with it higher levels of criticity and citizenship

A pesquisa de campo compreendeu coleta de dados a partir de observações de práticas leitoras multimidiais desenvolvidas no Centro de Referência de Literatura e Multimeios da Universidade de Passo Fundo/RS Mundo da Leitura, análise de registros em formulários específicos, e de posteriores entrevistas com seus monitores, bem como visitas a uma escola municipal da referida cidade para observações de suas atividades diárias e aplicação de questionários com professoras e alunos.
