This research approaches the issues of urban fragmentation, the break on space made by the railroad tracks, as well as the consequences of having a fragmented public space and the limitations imposed on the pedestrians. Theses issues will be discussed based on a place which shows all these characteristics: the neighborhood called Brás. Brás is located on the east side of São Paulo, city and state capital. It has received since the beginning of the 19th century different kinds of construction related to railroads, as to which, in the mid 20th century, had developed greatly around the neighborhood. This particular place had its development closely related to the railroad made which had attracted different kinds of industry and manufactures in order to have a better flow of their production.However, the economy changed from and industrial path to commercial and services one which has led to the mischaracterization of the tracks and the place. Nowadays, the train station, Brás, which was key to the development of the neighborhood has become an obstacle in the pedestrian movement, turning itself into a divider of the space, the responsible of the fragmentation of the neighborhood. For such reason, it is the main element present which promotes the articulation of the portions of Brás is the train station managed by the public company, CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos, Metropolitan Trains of São Paulo).
