This essay responds to a theme of interest and instigation, in my personal history while teaching of disciplines such as: studies and housing projects, Housing Space and Anthropometry and ambiance, in the course of Bachelor's degree home economics, Domestic Sciences, Department of the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. The research was developed from the graduate program in consumption, daily life and Social Development, presents the housing policies of Social interest, the program my house my life-PMCMV, related to the constructed space of housing and consumer practices of families, through studies of two popular housing estates, a vertical housing, apartments, and other horizontal and houses, in the metropolitan region of Recife, one in and one in RPA2 municipality of São Paulo. The studies revealed that the spaces of dwellings of social interest comes given in part the demands of families who were in areas of risk, and that their occupation and use of furniture and appliances are committed, because many of these families not bought new furniture, adapting those who already possess, and/or bought new furniture dimensions, the environments were not due to a lack of understanding of suppose space built, that's Anthropometry and ergonomics. Adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach, characterizing them as well as exploratory research, seeking a critical analysis on the problems of housing in contemporary consumer society. Reflections on the urban reality, contradictions in brazilian cities, linked to the problems generated in the real estate market, environmental degradation, lack of infrastructure, violence, disabled transport and social movements, capitalist accumulation, the State and the means of consumption. Thus found itself living (s) happy with the acquisition of home ownership, and at the same time worried (the) with questions regarding the structural problems of the building, the occupation of small spaces, but also of the coexistence among neighbors. Among the results highlight the need to expand the social policies with regard to housing issues: changes to the original architectural design, to Collective Living, the consumption of goods and services and concepts of Anthropometry and ergonomics of the built space.
