Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To determine the degree of information processing professional dentist about dental articles. METHODS: The sample consisted of 96 dentists of both genders who work in the city of Londrina. The inclusion criterion was the professional dentist of both genders, surgeon and orthodontist who work in offices and process their own materials. Exclusion criteria contemplated the dentists working in public service or outsource the processing of your materials. 100 questionnaires, containing 11 objective questions, were distributed from July 2011 to December 2012 The parameters analyzed were:. Educational level, knowledge about processing practices of dental articles and review the level of information involved in the processing of articles dental-medical hospital. Data were analyzed by chi-square test and multiple logistic regression with BioEstat 5.0 "software". RESULTS: One can consider the insufficient level of information on sterilization procedures, as 43.75% of respondents did not know exactly how the whole process should be. 58.33% of respondents made their last update on sterilization for more than one year, 31.25%, have never done this type of specific training. CONCLUSION: Much of dentists say they know about the article processing, but it was evident that in addition to information on the subject level is low, the proper practice of processing the items in their offices is still critical. Continuous updating should be done to encourage change in the processing practices of dentists as a way to promote health professionals, patients and safety

MÉTODOS: A amostra compreendeu 96 odontólogos de ambos os gêneros que atuam na cidade de Londrina-PR. O critério de inclusão foi o profissional odontólogo de ambos os gêneros, cirurgião e ortodontista, que trabalham em consultórios e processam seus próprios materiais. Os critérios de exclusão contemplaram os odontólogos que atuam em serviços públicos ou terceirizam o processamento de seus materiais. 100 questionários, contendo 11 questões objetivas, foram distribuídos no período de julho 2011 a dezembro de 2012. Os parâmetros analisados foram: nível de escolaridade, conhecimento sobre práticas de processamento de artigos odontológicos e avaliação do nível de informação dos envolvidos com o processamento de artigos odontomédico-hospitalares. Os dados foram tratados pelo teste qui-quadrado e regressão logística múltipla com o auxílio do software BioEstat 5.0. RESULTADOS: Pode-se considerar insuficiente o nível de informação sobre os procedimentos de esterilização, pois 43,75% dos entrevistados não souberam exatamente como deve ser o processo inteiro. 58,33% dos entrevistados fizeram sua última atualização sobre esterilização há mais de um ano, 31,25%, nunca fizeram esse tipo de treinamento específico. CONCLUSÃO: Boa parte dos odontólogos afirma conhecer sobre o processamento de artigos, porém ficou evidenciado que além do nível informação sobre o assunto ser baixo, a prática adequada de processamento dos artigos em seus consultórios ainda é crítica.
