Resumo: | The Amazon Fund (AF), established in 2008 under the governance of the Brazilian National Development Bank (BNDES), represents a landmark initiative in the global effort to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+). With over 15 years of operation, the Fund has supported over 100 projects, fostering environmental conservation, socio-economic development, and sustainable governance in one of the world\'s most critical ecosystems. However, its implementation has also faced significant challenges, including governance disparities, transparency concerns, and gaps in long-term evaluation. These challenges highlight the need to deepen the analysis of how governance structures and resource allocation mechanisms influence the Fund\'s socio-environmental outcomes, particularly from the perspective of transparency and institutional effectiveness. This dissertation investigates the Amazon Fund through three interrelated studies, employing systematic literature reviews, bibliometric analysis, and expert consultation. The first study examines the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of systematic literature reviews (SLRs), establishing their relevance as a robust tool for synthesizing knowledge in interdisciplinary fields and providing methodological support for the subsequent analyses of the AF. The second study applies the SLR methodology to analyze the academic discourse on the Amazon Fund, highlighting its contributions and identifying gaps in research on governance, policy impacts, and local community engagement. The third study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the Fund\'s governance structure, resource allocation, and monitoring mechanisms, culminating in a research agenda validated by experts to guide the Fund\'s future actions. Additionally, the Appendix presents a legal analysis of the penal protection of the Legal Amazon, broadening the interdisciplinary approach and reinforcing the need for articulation between environmental governance and legal instruments. By integrating theoretical and empirical approaches, this dissertation offers a holistic understanding of the Amazon Fund\'s achievements and challenges. It contributes to the academic discourse on environmental governance and sustainability, presenting actionable insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners. The findings emphasize the relevance of integrating different fields of knowledge such as - management, law, and public policy - highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based policymaking to enhance the Funds role in addressing deforestation, climate change, and socio-environmental inequalities. |
