From a scientific inquiry, this research tried to identify in the private Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) of the Southwest region in São Paulo State, in theirInstitutional Development Planning management (IDP) the practiced technology transference mechanisms by the IHE in study in the relation IHE-COMPANIES. The IHE, are by excellence, organizations and have as their main objective the education, the research and the extension according to their administrative organization. The growth of that segment of education, specially the private IHE, from the Law of Directives and Bases of the National Education (LDB) (Law 9394/96), brought the need of the planning for the IHE, since they started to deal with the competition, and to the competitiveness of market. The IDP is a plan, a programming for the growth of the IHE or to fortify their action, according to the objective, institutional mission, strategies that involves not just the administrative sector, but also the academic sector. The IDP aims to develop the IHE. The field research was carried out with a qualitative approach of interpretative nature through questionnaires and direct or personal observations. They were carried out questionings with the IHE’s managers. From then the analyses were subdivided into four groups: knowing the profile of the private IHE in study according to their administrative organization before the Ministry of Education and Culture; identifying the existence of the IDP in the IHE in tudy; verifying if the IDP contemplates some kind of relationship between IHECOMPANIES; identifying the mechanisms of relationship between IHE-COMPANIES that characterizes the transference of technology. The research revealed that the IHE present the IDP as instrument of management. They know the importance of the technology for competitive capacity of the IHE, as the mechanisms of relation between IHE-COMPANIES and transference of technology, but there are big difficulties to be transposed for the success of the relationship IHE-COMPANY and the improvement of the technology transference mechanisms.
