Recursos naturais e capoeira: aplicação da educação ambiental em oficinas de berimbau

Capoeira is a physical activity with a strong historical-cultural nature. It is a genuinely Brazilian practice derived from enslaved Africans. Capoeira is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and is present in more than a hundred countries. The present research aimed to develop and apply socio-environmental workshops, through the making of berimbau and accessories, along with the capoeira project "Ginga Santa Helena" on making instruments used in its practice, and to analyze its contribution to the promotion of environmental education with the participants and their knowledge of the species and natural resources used. Data collection took place through the application of pre and post-workshop questionnaires to constitute data that were analyzed using the content analysis methodology. The materials used to make the instruments were grown by the participants themselves or sustainably collected from various plant sources, such as vines, fibers, seeds and stems. In this way, we also evaluated how capoeira can act as an instrument of environmental education, and the importance of this theme in the personal construction of the participants. It was possible to observe among the participants the commitment in the activities, from the moment of the distribution of the seeds of the plant species to be cultivated, to later be used in the workshops, as well as in the development of the participants' interaction with nature, in the collection of natural resources, as well as in the cultivation of Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl., popularly known as porungos and in raising awareness of them in relation to Environmental Education, it was also possible to observe that the participants are in the macro trends of conservative and pragmatic Environmental Education.
