The main objective of this research was to analyze the interrelationship between production for self-consumption and Food and Nutritional Security (SAN) in farming families in the municipality of Ampére – PR. The theoretical-methodological approach was supported by the qualitative approach, in which 10 agricultural families were interviewed, through a form containing closed and open questions, and with the aid of a field diary. The data from the closed questions were compiled and analyzed with the help of Excel® version 2010 software; for open questions, content analysis was performed. The production of self-consumption for these families is related to food quality, health, tradition/culture, economy and affection. The foods they produce are valued for having a higher nutritional quality than purchased foods, for their trust in traditional know-how and the absence of pesticides, portraying ontological security. Production for self-consumption, too, becomes an element capable of strengthening the family's bond with the place where they live and the continuity of its tradition of producing food, ensuring safe food for consumption. And even in the face of so many changes in local traditional food models, this contributes to the consolidation of memories that are built in these relationships. Self-consumption also assumes a role of resistance and reflexivity in relation to so-called modern (ultra-processed) foods/products. Farmers reproduce the experience of planting, harvesting and consuming their own food, free from agrochemical contaminants, through which the history of their family's food is built and reproduced, even if in a recontextualized way, at future generations.
