The general objective that guided the present research was to analyze the perceptions and actions of the residents of the São João neighborhood in the municipality of Pato Branco-PR about the socio-environmental conditions of the place where they live. The study was characterized as a qualitative research with descriptive emphasis. Twelve subjects, 07 females and 05 males, participated in the study. Data collection was performed through a semi-structured interview in home visits and participant observation. For the presentation and description of data and information collected, the technique of content analysis and the construction of graphs and tables were used. As for the results obtained, it is observed that the residents of the neighborhood of São João perceive their community as an isolated neighborhood, stigmatized and neglected by the public power; highlight violence, drugs, traffic, fights, mess, loud sound and vandalism as the main problems of the neighborhood; but also the lack of doctors, the presence of few public transport lines, the precarious situation of the streets and the pavement of the neighborhood, the lack of basic sanitation and sanitary control. Regarding the agency capacity of the residents, it was verified that referring to the problems of violence in the neighborhood, the interlocutors seek to take refuge in the family environment and not leave the house at night. In situations of disturbance of the quiet, vandalism and traffic of drugs some residents make denunciations by means of telephone calls to the police and others affirm to prefer not to seek help for fear of having their residence invaded or suffering some type of violence. With regard to the infrastructure problems and difficulties encountered in the services provided by the public services in the neighborhood, some residents revealed to seek help from the CRAS, to the district president, to talk with influential people of the municipal executive, to activate the media, to make improvements in the neighborhood from their own actions, such as building spines in the streets, planting trees and collaborating in the construction of places of common use.
