The lack of proper waste disposal can cause significant environmental impacts. In this context, the importance of implementing waste management strategies is highlighted, and one of them is the adoption of selective collection. Therefore, recyclable materials cooperatives play an essential role in waste management by promoting selective collection and the correct disposal of these materials into the production chain. They not only enhance recycling efficiency but also play a fundamental role in environmental preservation. Given this reality, the objective of this study was to conduct a diagnosis of the operation of a recyclable materials cooperative located in the city of Marília-SP and analyze how the management of collected waste occurs. The methodology used in the research was exploratory, descriptive, and analytical, conducted in three stages. In the first stage of data collection, essential information and data were gathered to understand the environment and the situation at hand. In the second stage, a checklist was created as a guiding instrument for data collection, with criteria and categories relevant to solid waste management implemented in the cooperative. In the third stage, an analysis of the results obtained in the first stage was carried out, along with a diagnostic mapping of the infrastructure and solid waste management situation of the cooperative, as conducted in stage 2. This analysis was conducted using the SWOT methodology, which involves evaluating the interaction between strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. After conducting visits and applying the checklist, a comprehensive view of the challenges and deficiencies related to the internal infrastructure and management of the cooperative was obtained. Based on this diagnosis, an action plan for improvements was developed. This plan included various measures such as the development of promotional materials, the acquisition of uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE), training, and proposals to enhance infrastructure. These actions represent a comprehensive strategy to improve the cooperative's management, addressing its identified needs. Finally, it is worth noting that with the implementation of the proposed initial actions, an 11% increase in the quantity of collected waste was observed. However, it is crucial to emphasize the need for support from the public authorities in structuring municipal cooperatives to ensure satisfactory results in the selective collection process.
