Resumo em Inglês: The objective of this study was to analyze the concepts of "dependent" and "treatment" of substance present in the discourse of mental health professionals. Participated in the data collection 17 professionals from 3 institutions treating substance dependents of Curitiba and its metropolitan area. Data were collected through a questionnaire and subsequently analyzed and the classification of Rao (2000) in four groups of treatment modalities. The categories of analysis were studied: legal and moral approaches, biomedical, psychosocial and sociocultural. Professional research participants were from three different institutions of treatment, and they Therapeutic Community, Private Practice and Psychosocial Care Center Alcohol and Drugs (CAPSad). It was concluded that the three institutions run by different assumptions considered for the provision of treatment services and do not have a specific definition of the concepts of "dependent" and "treatment" of psychoactive substances. It was also concluded that the views of professionals can sometimes be contradictory to the methodologies and ideologies of the institutions analyzed.

Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário e, posteriormente, analisados e da classificação de Rezende (2000) em quatro grandes grupos de modalidades de tratamento. As categorias de análise estudadas foram: abordagens jurídico-moral, biomédica, psicossocial e a sociocultural. Foram participantes da pesquisa profissionais de três diferentes instituições de tratamento, sendo elas Comunidade Terapêutica, Clínica Particular e Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Álcool e Drogas (CapsAD). Concluiu-se que as três instituições analisadas partem de pressupostos diferenciados para a oferta do serviço de tratamento e não apresentam uma definição específica sobre os conceitos de “dependente” e de “tratamento” de substâncias psicoativas.
