This study seeks to propose an approach to the evidentiary relevance of police investigative actions in first degree murders. First, this study undertakes a general analysis of the criminal investigation components. Secondly, we examine a case under investigation in light of the preliminary investigation, especially with respect to objective and subjective evidence. Finally, in the concluding chapter, we tackle the issue of the validity of evidence collected during police investigations. This study attempts to demonstrate that law enforcement fulfils a paramount function within the social and legal realms if carried out pursuant to technical, legal, and ethical precepts. Additionally, this paper sought to unveil the deep-rooted, frequently negative bias against law enforcement, for in the legitimate exercise of its functions, the police seldom curtail citizens privacy. This paper also defended the police investigation as a safeguard to the individual rights and guarantees of the party under investigation. Above all, this paper attempts to highlight how crucial evidence collected during investigations is to solving crimes by decisively bringing about defendant s guilt or innocent verdicts. The proposed theme was developed through the deductive method, based on the Federal Constitution, Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and other material bibliographic references.
