Resumo: Two experiments were conducted in the Poultry Section of the Department of Animal Science, Federal University of Viçosa. The aim of the first experiment was to determine the chemical composition and the values of apparent metabolisable energy corrected by nitrogen balance (AMEn) of feedstuffs for broilers. The traditional method of excreta collection was used on 432 broiler chicks in the period from 14 to 24 days old. The animals were distributed in a completely randomized design with 12 treatments (11 feedstuffs and a reference diet), six replicates of six birds each. Each byproduct has replaced the reference diet at levels of 25 and 40% depending on the feedstuff used. The chicks were housed in metallic batteries equipped with trays for excreta collection. The values of dry matter, protein, calcium and phosphorus, in the natural matter of the feedstuffs evaluated were, respectively: 94.78; 58.84; 5.57 and 3.14 for poultry offal meal 1; 93.93; 57.64; 5.91 and 3.44 for poultry offal meal 2; 91.37; 80.58; 0.26 and 0.35 for feather and blood meal 1; 91.65; 82.27; 0.10 and 0.30 for feather and blood meal 2; 94.50; 48.06; 15.39 and 7.10 for meat and bones meal 1; 94.82; 41.21; 15.58 and 7.54 for meat and bones meal 2; 89.67; 36.45; 0.27 and 0.44 for soybean full-fat toasted; 89.50; 46.22; 0.33 and 0.64 for soybean meal; 89.24; 8.51; 0.03 and 0.22 for corn grits; 89.64; 17.11; 0.09 and 0.99 for wheat bran and 88.18; 12.01; 0.03 and 0.26 for the millet. The AMEn (kcal/kg) in the natural matter of the feedstuffs evaluated were: 340 for poultry offal meal 1; 3241 for poultry offal meal 2; 2740 and for feather and blood meal 1; 2703 for feather and blood meal 2; 1283 for meat and bones meal 1; 1088 for meat and bones meal 2; 2989 for soybean full-fat toasted; 2336 for soybean meal; 3265 for corn grits; 1788 for wheat bran and 2948 for the millet. The second experiment aimed the determination of the digestibility coefficients and the values of true digestible amino acids of feedstuffs for broilers, using the ileal collection method. It were used 432 broiler chicks in the period from 25 to 30 days of age distributed in a completely randomized design with 12 treatments (11 byproducts and a reference diet), six replicates of six birds each. The birds were subjected to an adaptation period of 4 days to the cages and experimental diets (protein-free diet - PFD and PFD with the addition of evaluated feedstuff to replace the starch). After this period, all birds of each replicate were slaughtered by cervical dislocation and opened in th e abdominal cavity to collect the portion of the contents of the terminal ileum. The 1% acid insoluble ash was used as an indicator to determine the digestibility of amino acids and endogenous excretion of amino acids. The coefficients of true digestibility of lysine, methionine + cystine and threonine in percentage were, respectively: 83.43; 79.38 and 89.19 for poultry offal meal 1; 86.46; 72.18 and 82.15 for poultry offal meal 2; 58.29; 55.09 and 67.43 for feather and blood meal 1; 60.42; 53.56 and 65.61 for feather and blood meal 2; 63.46; 61.18 and 74.76 for meat and bones meal 1; 70.91; 49.75 and 73.28 for meat and bones meal 2; 89.32; 83.07 and 91.61 for soybean full-fat toasted; 86.05; 78.40 and 81.89 for soybean meal; 73.42; 80.47 and 90.50 for corn grits; 73.53; 72.03 and 78.98 for wheat bran and 79.35; 84.56 and 87.42 for the millet. The values of true digestible amino acids of lysine, methionine + cystine and threonine, in percentage, were respectively: 2.78; 1.45 and 1.86 for poultry offal meal 1; 2.79; 1.26 and 1.69 for poultry offal meal 2; 1.45; 2.45 and 2.59 for feather and blood meal 1; 1.60; 2.45 and 2.52 for feather and blood meal 2; 1.26; 0.63 and 0.87 for meat and bones meal 1; 1.32; 0.45 and 0.86 for meat and bones meal 2; 1.91; 0.91 and 1.28 for soybean full-fat toasted; 2.45; 1.01 and 1.47 for soybean meal; 0.18; 0.33 and 0.27 for corn grits; 0.47; 0.45 and 0.42 for wheat bran and 0.29; 0.42 and 0.38 for the millet.
