Nesse sentindo, o estudo tem por objetivo investigar quais fatores motivacionais influenciam estudantes de Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) públicas a persistirem no curso de Ciências Contábeis. Para tanto, o estudo se baseou na Teoria da Autodeterminação (RYAN; DECI, 2017) e no Modelo de Motivação da Persistência do Estudante (TINTO, 2017), focando nos seguintes fatores: motivação autônoma; motivação controlada; desmotivação; metas; crenças de autoeficácia; senso de pertencimento; percepção do currículo; qualidade de escolha e identificação com o curso. O estudo de natureza descritiva, possui uma abordagem quantitativa e foi operacionalizado por meio de survey on-line. A amostra obtida compreende 796 estudantes matriculados em IES localizadas nas cinco regiões brasileiras. Os dados foram analisados com apoio da técnica de estatística descritiva no software SPSS 25; Análise Fatorial Exploratória no software Factor 12.01.02, para identificação das dimensões dos construtos; e Regressão Linear Múltipla no software SPSS 25, para analisar as associações propostas no estudo. Os resultados indicam que os estudantes que compõem a amostra apresentam um perfil motivacional autônomo; que suas crenças de autoeficácia, metas e identificação com o curso são os fatores motivacionais mais presentes em sua vida acadêmica; e que estão plenamente decididos a permanecerem no curso. Os resultados ainda indicam que a persistência dos estudantes é influenciada positivamente por suas metas, crenças de autoeficácia e identificação com o curso e de forma negativa pela desmotivação e motivação autônoma. O estudo complementa e amplia a literatura sobre essa temática e contribui para a construção de novos caminhos para as pesquisas acerca da persistência/evasão, em que o foco seja investigar junto ao estudante que persiste no curso os motivos que fomentam sua persistência e o que a IES pode fazer a respeito disso. Além disso, identificar fatores que influenciam a persistência dos estudantes pode auxiliar no desenvolvimento de ações que busquem criar condições para que eles permaneçam no curso, como a realização de workshops nas escolas de ensino médio e com ingressantes do curso, oficinas de gerenciamento do tempo e estratégias de aprendizagem, e monitorias voltadas para o desenvolvimento de habilidades acadêmicas. Bem como, fortalecer a relação professor- aluno para que seja possível tornar o aprendizado mais prazeroso e interessante, melhorando o engajamento do estudante e fomentando sua motivação para persistir no curso e concluí-lo no prazo determinado.In the educational context, the literature points out that persistence is associated with a series of factors that are within the intervention capacity of universities. In this sense, the study aims to investigate which motivational factors influence students from public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to persist in the Accounting course. To this end, the study was based on the Theory of Self-Determination (RYAN; DECI, 2017) and on the Model of Student Motivation and Persistence (TINTO, 2017), focusing on the following factors: autonomous motivation; controlled motivation; amotivation; goals; self-efficacy; sense of belonging; perception of curriculum; quality of choice; and identification with the course. The study is descriptive in nature, has a quantitative approach and was operationalized through an online survey. The sample obtained comprises 796 students enrolled in HEIs located in the five Brazilian regions. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics technique in SPSS 25; Exploratory Factor Analysis in Factor 12.01.02, to identify the dimensions of the constructs; and Multiple Linear Regression in SPSS 25, to analyze the associations proposed in the study. The results indicate that the students that make up the sample present an autonomous motivational profile; that their self-efficacy beliefs, goals and identification with the course are the most present motivating factors in their academic life; and who are fully determined to stay on course. The results also indicate that students' persistence is positively influenced by their goals, self-efficacy and identification with the course, and negatively by amotivation and autonomous motivation. The study complements and expands the literature on this topic and contributes to the construction of new paths for research on persistence/dropout, in which the focus it to investigate with the student who persists in the course the reasons that promote your persistence and what HEI can do about it. Besides, identifying factors that influence students' persistence can help in the development of actions that seek to create conditions for them to remain in the course, such as holding talk in schools high and with freshmen to the course, time management workshops and learning strategies, and support aimed at the development of academic skills.
