Resumo: This research aims to investigate the verbal and visual matrices, represented in the design (content) of the texts, for the construction of discourses in cartoons about the environment. To this end, we analyze how multisemiotic resources, modes of language and the effects of posited, presupposed and implied meaning combine, orchestrate and integrate themselves to construct the meanings of these texts, as well as understanding how these warning speeches for prevention of the environment present in the cartoons are important in terms of raising people's awareness. As a theoretical basis, this dissertation is mainly based on the theory of Social Semiotics by Hodge and Kress (1988), van Leeuwen (2005), the Multimodal Approach and Visual Design Grammar by Kress and van Leeuwen (2001, 2006), Kress (2003, 2010), in the SemioticDiscursive theory by Peirce (2005) and Santaella (2005) and in the effects of posited, presupposed and implied meaning by Ducrot (1987a). This work is located in the Language, Discourse and Identities research line and it is a descriptive-reflexive and qualitative research. Data analysis occurred as follows: of the 20 cartoons authored by Lute Cartunista (Fight Cartoonist) that we chose to compose the corpus of this study, we selected nine, dated from the years 2021, 2022 and 2023 that met our objectives, subsequently, we analyzed the multisemiotic resources, such as colors, images, typography; the modes of language, such as facial expressions, movements, gestures; and the effects of posited, presupposed and implied mean ings, as well as the argumentative construction of the semiotic combinations of all these texts. The results of the analysis show the critical-reflective potential of these cartoons, which represent the situation of the environment in Brazil, whose publica tions on social media, in this case, the cartoonist's social network Instagram are ma terial realizations of these speeches that criticize, ironize and denounce environmen tal issues in the country. These implications allow us to conclude that the discourses in the cartoons are constructed in a critical, ironic, interactive and ideological way through the use of verbal and non-verbal languages, however, the construction of that discourse is carried out, predominantly, in these cartoons, through a visual multisemiotic discourse.

Para isso, analisamos como os recursos multissemióticos, os modos de linguagem e os efeitos de sentido posto, pressuposto e subentendido se combinam, se orquestram e se integram para a construção dos significados desses textos, bem como entendermos como esses discursos de alerta para a prevenção do meio ambiente, presentes nas charges, são importantes no que condiz à conscientização das pessoas. Como base teórica, esta dissertação respalda-se, principalmente, na teoria da Semiótica Social com Hodge e Kress (1988), van Leeuwen (2005), na Abordagem Multimodal e Gramática do Design Visual com Kress e van Leeuwen (2001, 2006), Kress (2003, 2010), na teoria Semiótico-Discursiva com Peirce (2005) e Santaella (2005) e nos efeitos de sentido posto, pressuposto e subentendido com Ducrot (1987a). Este trabalho situa-se na linha de pesquisa Língua, Discurso e Identidades e trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter descritivo-reflexivo e de natureza qualitativa. A análise dos dados ocorreu da seguinte forma: das 20 charges de autoria do Lute Cartunista que escolhemos para compor o corpus deste estudo, selecionamos nove, datadas dos anos 2021, 2022, 2023, que atendiam aos nossos objetivos. Posteriormente, analisamos os recursos multissemióticos, como cores, imagens, tipografias; os modos de linguagem, como expressões faciais, movimentos, gestos; e os efeitos de sentidos posto, pressuposto e subentendido, assim como a construção argumentativa das combinações semióticas desses textos. Os resultados da análise mostram as potencialidades crítico reflexivas dessas charges, que representam a situação do meio ambiente no Brasil, cujas publicações na mídia social, no caso, a rede social Instagram do chargista, são realizações materiais desses discursos que criticam, ironizam e denunciam os problemas ambientais no país. Essas implicações nos permitem concluir que os discursos nas charges constroem-se de modo crítico, irônico, interativo e ideológico pelo uso das linguagens verbal e não verbal, contudo, a construção do discurso se faz, predominantemente, nessas charges, pelo discurso multissemiótico visual.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESNordeste-1application/pdfporUniversidade Regional do Cariri - URCAPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Letras - PPGLBrasilUniversidade Regional do Cariri - URCASemiótica SocialMultimodalidadeDiscursoChargeSocial SemioticsMultimodalitySpeechCartoonsLetrasLinguísticaMultimodalidade em charges: uma abordagem semiótico-discursivaMultimodality in cartoons: a semiotic approach-discursiveinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Comum do Brasil - Depositainstname:Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (Ibict)instacron:IBICTTEXTDISSERTAÇÃO DIONES BEZERRA DE SOUZA versão original .pdf.txtWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.TikaTextExtractionFilter on 2025-06-06T20:13:49Z (GMT).Extracted texttext/plain102627https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/819e50e8-139b-413b-ac71-6da32e7c0d78/downloadd6711448d54b7ac1968c06aaf5553221MD53falseAnonymousREADTHUMBNAILDISSERTAÇÃO DIONES BEZERRA DE SOUZA versão original .pdf.jpgWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.PDFBoxThumbnail on 2025-06-06T20:13:49Z (GMT).Generated Thumbnailimage/jpeg2751https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/dbb0aa82-3663-433d-b0db-e3156ada4f7b/downloade9c2b1032bf2ddd39b655afd0c2c2e95MD54falseAnonymousREADLICENSElicense.txtWritten by org.dspace.content.LicenseUtilstext/plain;
