Resumo: This study was developed from the observation of the work of Father Antônio Vieira, contextualized in literature in the Baroque period. The central theme developed was the Sermão da Sexagésima, rendered in the Royal Chapel in Portugal in the year 1655. This sermon constitutes a true theoretical paradigm of Vieira’s discursive procedure, where he exercises metalanguage, that is, the textual genre “sermon” to explain the meaning of the message itself. When studying the work, it is verified that the Parable of the Sower was the means adopted to apply the concepts of social justice, humanity, admonition, persuasion of the hearers and to propagate and to build the religious faith. The act of invocation to God is the manifestation of what is immanent in man toward the transcendent God, the vertex of all Creation. We will see in the course of the work how this process occurs in the Sermão da Sexagésima, that is, the metaphorical parallels of the content of the parable and the sermonist’s intention to attain the fruits of his poetic expression, whose effort is revealed in the process of reconciliation between transcendence and immanence.

Esse Sermão constitui um verdadeiro paradigma teórico do procedimento discursivo de Vieira, no qual ele exercita a metalinguagem, ou seja, o gênero textual “sermão” para explicar o significado da própria mensagem. Ao estudar a obra, verifica-se que a Parábola do Semeador foi adotada pelo sermonista para aplicar os conceitos de justiça social, humanidade, admoestação e persuasão dos ouvintes e para propagar e edificar a fé religiosa. O ato de invocação a Deus é a manifestação do que é imanente no homem em direção ao Deus transcendente, vértice de toda a Criação.
