Resumo: Infection by HIV-Aids is a major global public health problem, with strong impact in developing countries like Brazil. Recently, we have observed a feminization of the epidemic. This fact led to the development of this research, having women with HIV-AIDS as an object of study object. The main objectives of this research were to present the situation of the epidemic in the world, in Brazil and in Goiás; establish the relationship between medicine and religion, including the sight of women with HIV; highlight the feelings of patients because they are carriers of a virus with lethal characteristics; state the importance of religion in confronting these challenges posed by the disease; and, finally, relate to the role of the family in the fight against HIV-AIDS. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire as an instrument that was applied exclusively by the researcher in 30 patients infected by the virus and proven in medical follow-up in the Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Goiania-HDT-HAA or infectious diseases CLIMIPI, specializing in treatment of infectious diseases, both in Goiânia. The answers were recorded and subsequently transcribed in written text. The answers were systematized, displayed on tables and subsequently analyzed. All religious expressions mentioned are included in Christianity. 14 women interviewed declared themselves Evangelical, Catholic 11 and kardecist spiritists 5. The HIV virus was the infectious agent most studied in the history of medicine, which allowed great advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, although there is still no available available. The relationship of religion and medicine has existed since antiquity, oncea main task of religion was the spiritual and physical healing of people. For Laplantine (2004), the advancement of science brought a temporary disruption of this relationship, turning to find right after the reduction of the impact of secularization. The studied patients recognize the importance of this relationship and showed categorically that enjoy and appreciate both the medical expertise as the manifestation of the religious phenomenon in confronting the infection. The most expressive feelings expressed by the patients when asked about their feeling when they heard the word HIV or AIDS were: fear, prejudice, sexuality. The prejudice of non contaminated people proved to be more important than the fear of death by disease. Already the challenge caused by the strong guard sexuality relationship with sexual taboos, and the Church itself singled out as responsible for most of them. The patients reconized the importance of religion in the resolution of these problems, although some contradiction in dogmas with strong prejudice of sexuality arose. As for the role of the family, the reports are from families that support, but also those which do not support. In which support is clear demonstration of the importance in combating the disease evolution.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-07-27T13:46:38Z (GMT).
