Resumo: The purpose of this study is to learn ways of coping with problems (coping) that are most used by military police and what is the influence that the belief of self-efficacy has on choice and use of certain coping strategies. By way of the importance of relating the use of coping strategies to self-efficacy, the literature review showed, there were no studies conducted in Brazil and abroad about the belief of self-efficacy with military police. The new requirements led to the creation of management models that greatly affect the effective performance of employees at work. In this dynamic process, the concept of self-efficacy is essential in the life of organizations. One of the main studies on this topic reported in the literature is to Bandura (1977), that part of the assumption that self-efficacy is related to the strategies used by the worker to face stressful situations. Considered stressful events trigger different forms of psychological coping that can be related directly to self-efficacy at work. This study conceives strategies for coping with problems (coping) as individual variables, represented by the different ways that people facing adverse situations at work. According to Lazarus and Folkman (1984), studies on psychological coping point to three specific aspects: first, coping is conceived as a correlate to the defense mechanisms, in the second, highlights the cognitive and situational determinants of behavioral coping with stress both in the process of interaction between the individual and the environment as in personality traits. From this perspective, this study aims to determine what influence the self-efficacy has on coping strategies in police officers, Reaching this goal, this study will enable: the improvement of the theoretical and methodological about coping strategies to stressful events; the improvement of the theoretical and methodological beliefs about self-efficacy.; the search for an understanding of how selfefficacy influences coping strategies at work.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-07-27T14:22:03Z (GMT).
