Japanese immigration to Pará, as a part of a migratory movement initiated in the late 1920s, is characterized by a wide range of repressive processes and adversities. Since the beginning, the colony of Tomé-Açu had to coexist with harsh weather, difficulties related to harvesting, and frequent outbreaks of malaria that caused several deaths and forced migrations (Tsutsumi, 2001). Moreover, the Second World War, the breakdown of relations between Brazil and the Axis powers, and the attack of Brazilian ships by the Germans resulted in the uprising of Belém's population and, consequently, the establishment of the Tomé-Açu concentration camp in 1942 (Tsutsumi, 2001), in which the nikkei were subdued to several restrictions imposed by the Brazilian authorities, whether in terms of language, the right to come and go, economic organization, or contact with the outer world (Tsutsumi, 2021). From this repressive context, this study aims to analyse the process of identity constitution of the descendants of nikkei cloistered in the Tomé-Açu concentration camp taking into account the regulatory identity policies suffered by their ancestors, using the identity-metamorphosis-emancipation syntagm and ucting this study lies in the fact that this phenomenon has only recently been studied more widely, with many relevant publications in the area of Japanese immigration in Pará, but without deeply investigating what happened during the period of confinement. In addition, the repressive measures orchestrated by the Vargas government potentialized questions concerning the extent of consequences of this period for the following generations of descendants and the formation of their identity processes based on the repression suffered by their ancestors
