The objective of this study is to investigate the literature of João Guimarães Rosa aiming at catching a glimpse at a purpose in Rosean writing. Such an intent was drawn from the observation that, in the critical works about the writer, few were interested in questioning his work under the concept of writing. In this sense, this research has the goal of revealing Rosean writing in the light of the mythic poetic concept of literature. To do that, we questioned the composition of his writing in the relationships it establishes with language, myth and poetry. Our concern was to examine Rosean writing according to a mythical view, trying not only to unveil his concept of writing but also to make explicit its way of functioning. Our reflection was orientated by the following hypotheses: a mythic poetic approach to Rosean literature allows a glimpse at the metamorphic occurrences of his word; the concreteness of the Rosean word allows the understanding of a metaphysical destination to his writing. To develop this study, we selected as its corpus the short stories Sorôco, sua mãe, sua filha (1962), Meu tio o Iauaretê (1961), and Lá, nas campinas (1967). The theoretical basis was founded on the concepts of writing proposed by Roland Barthes and Jacques Derrida, and of mythology proposed by Mielietinski, Eliade and Cassirer, as well as on critical essays produced by Rosean literature reviewers. We also made use of the poetic principles of the writer himself, gathered from interviews and correspondence. We concluded that the literature of João Guimarães Rosa brings into light a high degree of language realization, revealing it as a kind of rationalist metaphysics, as a writing that, chopping the word, configures the metamorphosis of the literary sign.
