Folias, revelry suits, kings company, there are many terms used to call this kind of manifestation of Catholicism in Brazil. Circulated primarily in the southeast, west and north center, these groups represent a significant portion of the varied expressions of Catholicism in our country. Despite the diversity in their practices, revelry groups have common elements that allow us to circumscribe them within the same category. In this research, I seek to understand the functions of music in places of religious ritual nature in the context of Folias Catholic city of Montes Claros (MG). It is the aim of the research observation and analysis of the interrelations between music and the reinterpretation of religious practices, seeking to understand the history and the social and cultural dynamics involving the groups and their members. Thus, from the collected empirical data, identify the adoption of new behavior patterns in rituals and religious beliefs practices in relation to the forms considered traditional by the subjects in question. We believe that the music of revelers manifests as inseparable part of the rituals, performing functions determining in its composition and dynamics. Faced with the current processes of commodification of society and dissemination of new technologies, the revelry groups undergo constant reinterpretation of symbolic references. Through the mass media, the media articulates directly with the institutions and cultural practices in various levels, in such a way that set new values and behaviors among individuals, directly affecting the modus operandi of parties and popular religious traditions which undergo a dynamic reinvention of its most classical forms. Religious groups, in this case the Catholic follies, come to occupy new spaces, sometimes disconnected from the central area of the spiritual realm, winning the artistic status, musical, cultural or folkloric. Given the paucity of research that specifically address the Folias in Montes Claros and especially those focusing on religious aspects, we believe that this work will contribute to a deeper understanding of our society and culture. Thus, we hope to create an empirical basis for obtaining basic data for the construction and understanding of concepts through the prism of religious studies within the context of Folias in Montes Claros
