Resumo: Aims: This study investigated the impact of moderate ID on family quality of life (FQoL) on a sample of families from the city of São Carlos, SP, Brazil. Methodology: It’s a descriptive and cross-sectional research, in which 50 families with children with moderate ID and linked to the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional (APAE) of São Carlos participated. The data was collected using forms applied face-to-face, with families’ sociodemographic information, personal information from the individuals with ID, the Barthel and the Lawton & Brody functionality indexes of individuals with ID, and the Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale (BCFQoLS). For statistical analysis, parametric tests were used. The statistical significance of the differences was determined by t-test or ANOVA, depending on the numbers of variables analyzed. The Pearson correlation test was used to evaluate the degree of binary correlation between the FQoL and the other variables, and the linear regression method was used for multiple correlation analysis. The level of significance adopted was 5%. Results: The individuals with ID reached an average of 90 points (SD±13.36) in the Barthel index, indicating moderate dependence for activities of daily living; and 3.12 points (SD±1.66) in the Lawton & Brody index, indicating a severe dependency for instrumental activities of daily living. The mean score reached in BCFQoLS was 3,587 (SD±0.470); this value of total QVF was significantly higher than the scores obtained in the domains "emotional well-being" and "physical/material well-being", and significantly lower than the scores obtained in the "family interaction" domains, "parenting" and "disability-related support". Emotional well-being was the domain with the lowest score in relation to the other domains. The domains most strongly correlated with total FQoL were "family interaction", "parenting” and "emotional well-being", aspects intrinsically modulated by family dynamics and cohesion. The only variable that showed a significant binary correlation with the total FQoL was the Lawton & Brody index (r=0.326; p=0.021). The adjusted linear regression model, considering this index, explained 10.6% of the variability found in the total FQoL results (p=0.021) and showed that the increase of one unit in the value of the Lawton and Brody index represented an increase of 0.092 points in the total FQoL value. Final considerations: It was observed that the FQoL of families with children with ID in the city of São Carlos, SP, is below the results of most international studies. The domain with the lowest scores was "emotional well-being". It is recommended that actions be taken to strengthen the dialogue and family cohesion in order to strengthen relationships and care among members. It is also important to offer activities that stimulate tasks of basic and instrumental activities of daily living early on, in order to promote greater autonomy of the disabled individual. Finally, it will be important to develop actions to raise awareness and training of public opinion, in order to facilitate a change of attitude that allows improvement in the integration of people with ID in society, promoting the exercise of citizenship.

Método: pesquisa descritiva e transversal, na qual participaram 50 famílias com filhos com DI moderada, vinculadas à Associação de Pais e Amigos de Excepcionais (APAE) de São Carlos. Os dados foram coletados por meio de formulários aplicados presencialmente, com informações sociodemográficas das famílias e informações pessoais dos indivíduos com DI, os índices de funcionalidade de Barthel e de Lawton & Brody dos indivíduos com DI, e a Escala de Qualidade de Vida Familiar do Beach Center (BCFQoLS). Para análise estatística, foram utilizados testes paramétricos. A significância estatística das diferenças foi determinada pelo teste t ou ANOVA, conforme o número de variáveis analisado. O teste de correlação de Pearson foi usado para avaliar o grau de correlação binária entre a QVF e as demais variáveis; e o método de regressão linear para as análises de correlação múltipla. O nível de significância adotado foi de 5%. Resultados: Os indivíduos com DI alcançaram média de 90 pontos (DP±13,36) no índice de Barthel, indicando dependência moderada para atividades de vida diária; e de 3,12 pontos (DP±1,66) no índice de Lawton & Brody, indicando grave dependência para atividades instrumentais de vida diária. A pontuação média atingida na BCFQoLS foi de 3,587 (DP±0,470); este valor de QVF total foi significativamente superior aos escores obtidos nos domínios “bem-estar emocional” e “bem-estar físico-material” e significativamente inferior aos escores obtidos nos domínios “interação familiar”, “cuidado dos pais com os filhos” e “apoio ao deficiente”. Bem-estar emocional foi o domínio com menor pontuação em relação aos demais domínios. Os domínios mais fortemente correlacionados com a QVF total foram “interação familiar”, “cuidado dos pais com os filhos” e “bem-estar emocional”, aspectos intrinsicamente modulados pela dinâmica e coesão familiar. A única variável que apresentou correlação binária significativa com a QVF total foi o índice de Lawton & Brody (r=0,326; p=0,021). O modelo de regressão linear ajustado, considerando este índice, explicou 10,6% da variabilidade encontrada nos resultados da QVF total (p=0,021) e mostrou que o aumento de uma unidade no valor do índice de Lawton e Brody representou um aumento de 0,092 pontos no valor da QVF total. Considerações finais: Observou-se que a QVF das famílias com filhos com DI da cidade de São Carlos, SP, encontra-se aquém dos resultados da maioria dos estudos internacionais. O domínio de menor pontuação foi “bem-estar emocional”. Recomenda-se que sejam implementadas ações clínicas que fortaleçam o diálogo e a coesão familiar a fim de potencializar as relações e os cuidados entre os membros. É relevante também oferecer atividades que estimulem as atividades básicas e instrumentais de vida diária precocemente, a fim de promover maior autonomia do deficiente. Finalmente, será importante desenvolver ações de sensibilização e formação da opinião pública, de forma a facilitar uma mudança de atitude que permita melhoria em termos de integração das pessoas com DI na sociedade, promovendo o exercício de cidadania.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)FAPESP: 17/06504-1FAPESP: 17/06123-8porUniversidade Federal de São CarlosCâmpus São CarlosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem - PPGEnfUFSCarDeficiência intelectualQualidade de vida familiarRelações familiaresBrasilIntellectual disabilityFamily quality of lifeFamily relationsBrazilCIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEMQualidade de vida de famílias que têm filhos com deficiência intelectual moderada em São Carlos, SP, BrasilQuality of life of families who have children with moderate intellectual disability in Sao Carlos, SP, Brazilinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisOnline600c9a97ae0-3822-43bb-b729-f4e018a4f123info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFSCARinstname:Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCAR)instacron:UFSCARORIGINALdissertacao_Erica_DGMelo.pdfdissertacao_Erica_DGMelo.pdfapplication/pdf3721766https://repositorio.ufscar.br/bitstreams/2021cd19-b676-4bdc-ac7a-73b3d69e9f91/download5c7f5ee93fc7ad2687cfc9b3c6b1a910MD52trueAnonymousREADLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
