Resumo: The objective of this work is to analyze the teaching and learning process of Geometry in the Mathematics classes of Middle School in the municipal schools of Porto Feliz / SP, by investigating the teaching methodology of Mathematics teachers, if they use teaching instruments such as rulers, compasses and protractors in their teaching practices. The research was motivated by the need of changing the teaching and learning process of Geometry. The theoretical course of the research was based on the review of official documents, books, theses, dissertations and articles by Authors and Teachers that argue and evidence the importance of geometric constructions in the student's formation and in the historical context. The methodological option for this research was quanti-qualitative. In the methodological process of quantitative nature, we developed questionnaires addressed to all the students and teachers from the research scenario, with the purpose of tracing the profiles and investigating the methodology used in teaching-learning Geometry. For the analysis of these data we use the Descriptive Statistics methods, with syntheses presented in the form of graphs and tables. In the methodological process of a qualitative nature, in order to experience the arguments of the theoretical foundation, we developed the weekly geometric lesson project with emphasis on geometric constructions at Coronel Esmédio School, with the students from the 8th Grade Middle School C during the year of 2016. The results of the quantitative research allowed us to trace the profile of students and teachers of the researched environment. We observed the negligence or abandonment of geometric constructions in Mathematics classes and the possible reasons for this sad reality. The performance of the qualitative research allowed us to identify the evolution in participation, concentration and performance of the students, proving the arguments of the theoretical foundation on the benefits of geometric constructions in the teaching and learning process of Geometry. The experiences of the teacher / researcher in the qualitative methodological process, together with the results obtained in the quantitative, made explicit the benefits of the geometric constructions in the student's formation and the need of changing the teaching and learning process of Geometry in the Middle School of Porto Feliz / SP.

A pesquisa foi motivada pela necessidade de mudança no processo de ensino-aprendizagem da geometria. O percurso teórico da pesquisa fundamentou-se na revisão de documentos oficiais, livros, teses, dissertações e artigos de Autores e Professores que argumentam e evidenciam a importância das construções geométricas na formação do aluno e no contexto histórico. A opção metodológica para esta pesquisa foi a quanti-qualitativa. No processo metodológico de natureza quantitativa elaboramos questionários direcionados a todos os alunos e professores do cenário de pesquisa, com a finalidade de traçar os perfis e investigar a metodologia utilizada no ensino-aprendizagem de geometria. Para análise destes dados utilizamos os métodos de Estatística Descritiva, com sínteses apresentadas em forma de gráficos e tabelas. No processo metodológico de natureza qualitativa, para vivenciar os argumentos da fundamentação teórica, desenvolvemos o projeto de aula semanal de geometria com ênfase em construções geométricas na escola Coronel Esmédio com a turma do 8º Ano C durante o ano de 2016. Os resultados da pesquisa quantitativa permitiram traçar o perfil de alunos e professores do ambiente pesquisado, verificamos a negligência ou abandono das construções geométricas nas aulas de matemática e os possíveis motivos para essa triste realidade. O desempenho da pesquisa qualitativa permitiu identificar a evolução na participação, na concentração e no desempenho dos alunos, provando na prática os argumentos da fundamentação teórica sobre os benefícios das construções geométricas no processo de ensino-aprendizagem de geometria.
