This research is linked to the postgraduate studies in Educational Process and Teacher Training. It has as objective to analyze the challenges and potentials of the Specialized Learning Support Teams (in Portuguese, EEAAs) of the Secretariat of Education of the Federal District (Brasília), before the referrals of basic education students, who have some school difficulties, mainly learning. EEAAs educators and psychologists chosen to participate in the research were those who work in educational units linked to the Plano Piloto Coordination. The research used the qualitative methodological approach through data collection procedures to apply a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The results were analyzed using Bardin's content analysis technique, with the elaboration of thematic categories. The theoretical framework discussed the concepts of learning and its difficulties, in addition to the relationship between human development and the historical-cultural perspective of Vigotski, as well as its link with the curriculum and school inclusion. The results of the research showed the demands that come to the EEAAs as the possibilities of action and the challenges faced. From the notes of the perceptions of these professionals, it was possible to conclude that it is necessary to implement strategies so that the work of the teams is better carried out, such as the dissemination to the entire school community about their functions, the promotion by Secretariat of Education of the Federal District of training for the teams, the existence of adequate physical space for these professionals, access to work materials, and integration between health, social assistance and education services.
