Global demographic aging demands a new look at old age, with a focus on health, participation, safety and learning throughout all the course of life, pillars consolidated by the Political Framework for Active Aging (ILC-Brasil, 2015). Based on this perspective, the Central Judicial do Idoso, an unprecedented initiative in the country and headquartered in the Distrito Federal, encourages the de-judicialization of common conflicts, especially through the adoption of non-conventional forms of resolution. The offer of mediation by the CJI contributes to the access to justice, as it is also a space for reflections on how aging is seen by the elderly themselves and on the preservation of autonomy in decision-making, including those related to their care. From there, the study aims to investigate, from the experience developed by the Central Judicial do Idoso, which model of preparatory workshop for mediation could contribute to the communication of the elderly and their families in conflict situations. In addition, the research also aims to: 1) discuss population aging, emphasizing the concept of active aging proposed by the WHO; 2) research the context of family conflicts involving the elderly and the need to improve communication among those involved, considering the concept of nonviolent communication; 3) Identify mediation, as a strategy to dejudicialize family conflicts involving the elderly, in the molds of the CNJ's Goal 9, based on the experience of the Central Judicial do Idoso; 5) Suggest the programmatic content of the workshop that will contribute to the communication between the elderly and their families as an instrument of access to justice, in compliance with recommendation n. 50/2014 and Resolution no. 125/2014, both of the Conselho Nacional de Justiça. The proposal of the Workshop presents itself as an intervention into existing reality, using, for that, action research. For the pursuit of theoretical support on themes, the research is bibliographical. Furthermore, document research was chosen for data collection with the CJI.
