At the end of 2019 a new respiratory virus was found in the region of China and quickly spread around the world. The World Health Organization is a global public health emergency. A new coronavirus pandemic, quickly affected the entire population and, consequently, health services. Because of the little information, from the risks of contagion, to the number of cases with death as an outcome, the mental health of health professionals directly affected. This study has as general objective to identify which coping strategies were used by professionals to deal with the stress generated by the pandemic. This is a qualitative and quantitative research in which the participants was residents and multiprofessional public health preceptors who work in primary health care and on the front line to fight the coronavirus, in the county of Ponta Grossa / PR. After approval by the ethics committee and sending the questionnaire online, 69 responses were adequate. Most of the participants was female and the main coping strategies used were the coping strategies centered in emotion: Self-Control and Positive Achievement. It is important to note that the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are still far from being defined. For this reason, it is important to consider a pandemic as a trigger for these professionals' psychological problems and to invest in studies aimed at the promotion, prevention and recovery of mental health of these workers.
