This study aims to examine the presence of wrappers, also called labels, in argumentative texts, called Encyclicals, written by His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, drawing on ideas of progression framework, object-of-speech and of argumentativeness. For the research, was selected the letter "Ecclesia de Eucharistia, which talks about what the Eucharist is the beginning and explains their relationship (significance) for the Catholic Church. The focus was to assess the strategies of reference drawn up for this genre, by means of lexical items, also called objects-of-speech. We tried to present some characteristics of these objects, for example, the linguistic material that is, if there is influence on the discursive argument and at the same time, to understand the importance of these wrappers to the encyclical letters. We also analyze the materiality of language wrappers, ie, we analyze the elements used in their construction, as well as the order of these elements in its interior.
