A transgerenidade na telenovela 'A força do querer': uma análise dos relatos de homens trans

The research analyzed the testimonies of a group of transgender men regarding the approach of the theme of male transgenderity in the soap opera A Força do Querer, produced by the Globo television network. The general objective was to analyze, from the perspective of a group of trans male viewers, how the character Ivana / Ivan is constructed within the narrative of the plot. It pursued the following specific objectives: a) To analyze how this group evaluates the trans man approach in this soap opera; b) Present the summaries that the aforementioned group of transgenders make of the telenovela's plot, tracing a profile of the transgender character; c) Investigate whether the group recognizes itself through the representation of the plot A Força do Querer. To support the ideas discussed here, works by Butler (2010), (1986), (2011), (2003), Hall (2006), Lopes (2009), Louro (2007), Salih (2012), Constatino (2014), Prado (2018) were used among others. It is a qualitative study that used content analysis as a methodological strategy. The most significant results showed that the transgender approach in the soap opera A Força do Querer generated disagreements in the opinion of the research interlocutors about some questions, such as: the choice of a cisgender actress to play a trans character; the option of placing homosexuality as the character's sexual orientation; identification with the character; the approach of the theme in the soap opera has contributed to the reduction of prejudice. Although the plot has addressed some developments of the issue of transgenderity, it does little to make the trans man category unrelated to prejudice and stigma. It is essential that the authors of the soap operas, before incorporating transgender characters in their plots, delve into the daily lives of these people, be aware of the demands put on them by the movements that represent them, in order to prevent improper approaches from being disseminated in communication vehicles wide-reaching.
