This research is an experience report living in a community that maintains the tradition of leather processing in a space called ecological tannery. In this context, the intention arises to use this socio-cultural theme in Chemistry classes. The assumption that guides this paper - inspired by the ethnomathematics, ethnosciences, ethnochemistry studies, and the CTSA approach - uses as field research a community in the Jardim do Seridó - RN town, whose one its members develops activities related to leather processing. Artisanal, the process has made using easily accessible substances such as sodium chloride, red angico, and wood ash. Beyond the local intergenerational knowledge, we seek to understand the socio-cultural knowledge related to tanning of animal skin, the difficulties faced by the processors, the popular knowledge used in the practice of artisanal processing and the presence of this activity in the students' daily lives, and, subsequently, relate the popular, scientific, and school knowledge to the Chemistry contents, including socio-cultural themes among the teaching strategies in the classroom. Then, Chemistry contents have listed as a possibility of interaction through teacher mediation, to bring ethnochemistry closer together. That is, understanding the basic education Chemistry contents have assimilated, and, better understood by students since they have presented in a contextualized way and close to their reality. Therefore, our Educational product consists of a didactic proposal for the teaching-learning process in Chemistry. Intending to promote the expansion of skills aimed at the Chemical concepts appropriation applied in a tannery, it served as a basis for different socio-cultural situations, in addition to being, in fact, a proposal for teachers to implement didactic-pedagogical actions in the classroom.
