Each era brings with it new challenges for science teaching and, to meet them, new methodological proposals and innovative approaches are tried out. Considering the challenges of teaching science that takes into account sustainable scientific and technological development, in this research we chose to follow an approach that seeks to work with physics content based on themes that enable reflections involving Science, Technology, Society, and the Environment or, as it has become better known: a CTSA approach. In this research, we aim to identify and discuss the possibilities and/or limitations of a teaching experience with a CTSA approach to the study of terrestrial magnetism in its relationship with living organisms, the biosphere, and life on the planet. Naturally, the topic was chosen because of the importance of terrestrial magnetism for organic beings and all life on Earth, but also historical reasons. Magnetic phenomena, as well as electrostatic phenomena, are much older than modern electromagnetism and are not always given due attention in science studies. Most textbooks present this discussion in a summarized and superficial way. To contribute to this demand, paradidactic material with a CTSA approach will be developed for teaching terrestrial magnetism. We believe that this proposal is important for helping students and teachers take a new approach to teaching this content.
