This is a discussion on the relationship between drama and theater taking the performance of a dramatic text as a starting point for reflection and, consequently, the stage director as a mediator of the aesthetic relationship between theatrical stage and audience, and while questioning the authority of the dramatic text. To undertake this reflection, specifically, are studied issues pertaining to different theatrical productions of the paradigmatic text on modern/contemporary drama - The Old Women (As velhas), by Lourdes Ramalho - in your joints with internal and external critical reception, in search to understand the text and dramaturgical analysis of the memories of stage productions, how to build a productive relationship between drama and theater in different historical times. Thus, it appears, in the analytical course of three different stage productions, a dialogue with the Lourdes Ramalho’s drama: each director in his own way sought a different form of telling the same story in different historical moments, whereby interpretative relationship did not deny the dramaturgical work, but on the contrary, broadened the interpretations thereof. This analysis explains the importance of each scenario for the cultural scenario of his time, through documentary research that points to the need for systematization of theater history in Paraiba and the renewed discussion of regionalism in drama/theater.
