Resumo: Brazil is one of the largest producers and exporters of chicken meat in the world, a culture that is growing. In this sense, poultry farming has expanded to the semi-arid Northeast, where there are restrictions on drinking water and food. In the case of Paraíba, this has been evidenced in municipalities in the semiarid portion, such as Pocinhos, where poultry farming is the main agricultural activity in the municipality, located in the Immediate Geographic Region of Campina Grande. In view of this, it is prepared to establish the main characteristics of the activity, in particular, the consumption of water for the chicken in this geographic area, with these determinations being the main objectives. And as specific objectives: to diagnose the socioeconomic and environmental profiles of poultry farming; establish the main characteristics of the pluvial regime in the territorial cut of the municipality; and assess the potential for rainwater harvesting as an alternative to increase water supply and reduce the cost of broiler production. The methodological procedures consisted of two steps: the first, using published data related to the topic, with a search on the digital platforms of AESA, SUDENE, IBGE, USDA, among others. In the second, field data were collected, applying semi-structured questionnaires, containing 36 questions, on the socioeconomic and environmental aspects of the poultry farmer, chicken production and water demand, applied to fifty-three poultry farmers. The choice of aviaries was made according to the snowball method. The pluvial regime was established, by the criterion of climatological statistics, and estimated the potential volumes of rainwater catchment. The calculations, financial balance sheets and the elaboration of graphs and tables were made using an Excel spreadsheet. The main results show that poultry farming is a subsistence activity and requires technological investment and an alternative to increase water supply. The State of Paraíba ranks fifth in the Northeast and the quality of chicken meat requires cleaning of the aviary and phytosanitary control. The effective herd of chickens in the aforementioned municipality is, individually, larger than that of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. The rainfall distribution model is irregular, asymmetry, the rainy season lasts from three to four months and has a chance of being dry. Even so, it has a high potential for capturing rainwater. The average water consumption per bird varies from 13.6 to 17.3 L depending on the application technology and the average fattening time is 45 days. There is a high potential for capturing rainwater, standing out as a viable alternative to local poultry farming, as it increases the supply of water and reduces production costs. Although it is an activity of great socioeconomic importance in the geographical area of Pocinhos, beef poultry farming currently needs public policies that enable investment in technological alternatives to increase the supply of drinking water.

Neste sentido a avicultura se expandiu para o Semiárido Nordestino, onde há restrições de água potável e alimentos. No caso da Paraíba, isto tem sido evidenciado em municípios da porção semiárida, como é o caso de Pocinhos, onde a avicultura de corte é a principal atividade agropecuária do município, localizado na Região Geográfica Imediata de Campina Grande. Diante disto, procurou-se estabelecer as principais características da atividade, em especial, o consumo de água do frango nesse recorte geográfico, sendo essas determinações os objetivos principais. E, como objetivos específicos: diagnosticar os perfis socioeconômico e ambiental da avicultura de corte; estabelecer as principais características do regime pluvial no recorte territorial do município; e avaliar o potencial de captação pluvial como alternativa para aumentar a oferta de água e reduzir o custo de produção do frango de corte. Os procedimentos metodológicos consistiram em duas etapas: a primeira, utilizando-se dados publicados relativos ao tema, com busca nas plataformas digitais da AESA, SUDENE, IBGE, USDA, dentre outros. Na segunda, foram coletados dados de campo, aplicando-se questionários semiestruturados, contendo 36 perguntas, sobre os aspectos socioeconômicos e ambientais do avicultor, da produção do frango e da demanda de água, aplicadas a cinquenta e três avicultores. A escolha dos aviários foi feita de acordo com o método snowball. Foi estabelecido o regime pluvial, pelo critério da estatística climatológica, e estimado os volumes potenciais de captação da água da chuva. Os cálculos, balancetes financeiros e a elaboração de gráficos e tabelas foram feitas utilizando-se a planilha Excel. Os principais resultados mostram que a avicultura é uma atividade de subsistência e necessita de investimento tecnológico e de alternativa para aumentar a oferta de água. O Estado da Paraíba ocupa a quinta posição no Nordeste e a qualidade da carne de frango requer higienização do aviário e controle fitossanitários. O rebanho efetivo de galináceos no aludido município é, individualmente, maior que o de bovino, ovino, caprino e suíno. O modelo de distribuição de chuva é irregular, assimetria, a estação chuvosa dura de três a quatro meses e tem chance de ser seca. Mesmo assim, tem um elevado potencial de captação da água da chuva. O consumo médio de água por ave varia de 13,6 a 17,3 L em função da tecnologia de aplicação e o tempo médio de engorda é de 45 dias. Existe um elevado potencial de captação da água da chuva, destacando-se como uma alternativa, viável a avicultura local, por aumentar a oferta de água e diminuir os custos de produção. Embora seja uma atividade de grande importância socioeconômica no recorte geográfico de Pocinhos, a avicultura de corte necessita, atualmente, políticas públicas que viabilizem o investimento em alternativas tecnológicas para aumentar a oferta de água potável.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESapplication/pdfUniversidade Estadual da Paraíba24004014008P8Programa de Pós-Graduação em Desenvolvimento Regional - PPGDRUEPBBRCentro de Educação - CEDUCPoultry farmingChickensRain catchmentRegional developmentCIENCIAS SOCIAIS APLICADASAviculturaGalináceosCaptação pluvialDesenvolvimento regionalAvicultura de corte e consumo de água no semiárido paraibanoAdvances, challenges and perspectives for the academic training of people with disabilities at the state university of paraíbainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisAlmeida, Hermes Alves dehttps://llattes.cnpq.br/7475805498748095Barbosa, José Luciano Albinohttps://llattes.cnpq.br/9595645010905448Pereira, Daniel Duartehttps://llattes.cnpq.br/9991335219423354Almeida, Hermes Alves dehttps://llattes.cnpq.br/7475805498748095https://llattes.cnpq.br/4836078302821529Pôrto, Júlio Cézar Gonçalvesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBORIGINALPDF - Júlio Cézar Gonçalves Pôrto.pdfPDF - Júlio Cézar Gonçalves Pôrto.pdfArquivo do Trabalhoapplication/pdf6919841https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/f3f320fb-101e-46e5-8c1b-3e39174f5dc9/download3a55bfd81620e22ee5ab6366557e0cefMD52trueAnonymousREADTermos BDTD - Júlio Cézar Gonçalves Pôrto.pdfTermos BDTD - Júlio Cézar Gonçalves Pôrto.pdfTermos BDTDapplication/pdf1199987https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/069d60c4-cfe6-4789-a5ce-fab9254af494/download89820b3fe24dab3d88c159cacb319d30MD53falseAdministratorREADLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
