Resumo: The correct choice of cultivar for a given environment is of great importance for obtaining good productivity. The CNPA SH 42 strain was registered as BRS, with a branched growth habit, with an axillary fruit and seeds with a reddish brown color, constituting a new option for the industrial oil and / or fresh consumption segment. As a future sesame cultivar, studies to evaluate the effect of plant density are needed to elucidate the effects of the population arrangement on crop performance. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the effect of different spacing and plant distribution per linear meter on the productive performance of cultivar BRS Morena. The experiment was conducted at the EMEPA experimental station in Alagoinha-PB. Four line spacing (45 cm; 60 cm; 75 cm and 90 cm) and two spacing between plants (10 cm and 20 cm) were tested, constituting eight populations of approximately 55,556; 66,667; 83,333; 11,111; 11,111; 133,333; 166,667; 222,222 plants per hectare, to assess the influence of population density on the BRS Morena sesame cultivar with branched growth habit. The experimental design was a 4x2 factorial distributed in randomized blocks with four replications. The characteristics of growth and production of sesame were evaluated: plant height, height of insertion of the first fruit, number of fruits per plant, length of fruits, mass of one thousand seeds and seed yield per hectare. For the variables number of fruits per plant, fruit length and seed yield for cultivar BRS Morena, they showed different performance under different planting configurations and plant densities. It is concluded, then, that the best agronomic and economic performance was registered in the spacing of 45 cm between rows and 10 cm between plants, corresponding to 222 thousand plants per hectare, with a cost- benefit ratio 6 times higher than the unit. Keywords: sesamum indicum l; cultural management; production system.
