Boxing is a combat sport that has been relatively underexplored in terms of its scope in national and international academic studies, despite having been present in Brazil since the 19th century. Over time, boxing has taken on various configurations in contemporary settings, demonstrating a diversity of approaches and practices within this sporting context (Caratti, 2017; Santos; Silveira, 2017). In this regard, the present study aims to identify and discuss the perceptions of boxing managers and coaches in the city of Rio de Janeiro regarding coach training. For this investigation, an initial scoping review was conducted with a temporal focus from 2012 to 2023, on studies discussing boxing training, in the main scientific libraries, namely: Medline and Lilacs (through the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library), SciELO, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, and Oasis IBICT. Subsequently, an exploratory and descriptive qualitative study was carried out involving three managers and 18 boxing coaches working in the city of Rio de Janeiro, who met the predefined inclusion criteria. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers from the following entities: a) Rio de Janeiro State Boxing Federation (FEBERJ); b) Rio de Janeiro State Federation of Socio-Educational Sport and Boxing (FPERJ); and c) Unicombat. The participating coaches responded to an online questionnaire created and distributed via the Google Forms platform. The sample for this stage was defined using the snowball principle, with referrals made by the participants themselves throughout the study (Becker, 1997). The content of the transcribed interviews with the managers and the answers collected from the coaches via the online questionnaire were analyzed following the guidelines outlined by Bardin (2020). Subsequently, categories of analysis were identified for the presentation of the results and discussion. By recognizing and addressing the gaps in the literature and in perceptions regarding coach training, space is opened up for the development of research and interventions that promote a safer, more inclusive, and more effective boxing practice, both in the competitive context and as an educational object
