The book Lições de Pedagogia (1915) was produced by Manoel José do Bomfim (1868-1932) doctor graduated from the Faculdade de Medicina do Rio de Janeiro in 1890, with the thesis Das nephritis. Bomfim began his works in education in 1896 as a vice-director in the institution Pedagogium. In this Institute he also served as a director for a long time, between the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. In this very period he was also professor at the Escola Normal do Distrito Federal, having published several books, among them this one transformed into core of this dissertation. Bomfim reports that the summaries of his classes at the Escola Normal were turned into a book in 1915, with the concern of not losing contents taught during the period he stood as professor in the said school. He needed to keep safe memories of the work he had developed during his teaching the course of pedagogy. Curricular Reforms were then carried out in that Institution, tending to unify the pedagogy and Psychology courses. Accordingly, much of the content for the field of psychology was removed from the program, with disagreeing of the author. For this reason, Manoel Bomfim has never admitted in his classroom the book in its material format, although their content was as matter of fact taught. In this work we intend to analyze general aspects of book Lições de Pedagogia (1915) as document of memory of the educational practice of the author as a teacher of future teachers for the Primary or Elementary Education of children, aged between six and fourteen years old, in Rio de Janeiro, Federal District and capital of the Republic of Brazil. In order to construct this reflection, the reading of four theses submitted in 1890 to the Faculdade de Medicina do Rio de Janeiro have been added. With this reading we intended to relate traits of the author s medical training with the requirements for the Escola Normal materialized in the book with three editions of 1915, 1917 and 1926, being latter edition worked in this dissertation. Another work incidentally considered in this reflection relates to the book Pensar e Dizer (2006 [1923]), in which Bomfim reflects upon the symbol and the language , concepts he also worked in Education
