Resumo: In clinical practice with young people and adolescents, the signifier bisexuality repeats itself in many cases, naming the direction of desire of these patients for people of various genders. However, this fact still seems to encounter resistance within the psychoanalytic field itself, with readings grounded in a cis-heteronormative discourse. This dissertation aims to discuss psychoanalytic practice with these young patients, presenting clinical cases that highlight unique expressions of each subject's relationship with their desire and their bisexual orientation, without presenting it as problematic in analysis. The bisexuality experienced by these young people invites us to revisit psychoanalytic theory in pursuit of its possible articulations as well as its limits. In psychoanalysis, bisexuality comes into play with Fliess, who was interested in anatomical-physiological correlations, following a different path from Freud, who was enthusiastic about the psychic dimension. The term emerges as an innate disposition of every human being, associated with structure. The centrality offered to the Oedipus complex does not completely erase the instinctual dimension, which persists throughout Freud's work. In Lacan, bisexuality loses importance with the conceptualization of the object a, the sense of lacking, foundational to subjective constitution and the cause of desire, whose satisfaction is always partial and drives its movement. Lacan's understanding (1957-58/1999) of castration reformulates Freud's notion of the phallus, linked to the organ, revealing the subject as an effect of the signifier, generating an epistemological cut of the sexual difference established in anatomical or physiological terms. The symbolic deprivation of the phallus, inscribed through the paternal metaphor, presents the symbolic castration of the imaginary object for all those situated in the field of neurosis, regardless of the choice of a (pre)determined sexual object. As this negativized phallus operates by engendering desire, it allows for a shifting of objects, being the very fluidity of desire. What is of psychoanalytic interest is how the subject frames the other within their fantasized structure. Therefore, it is necessary to seek critical references within and outside our field to conduct a clinical listening that does not reproduce structural social norms and includes the subjectivities of our time. Being aware of power relations at stake in the constructions of sex, gender, desire, and sexuality enables us to engage in a listening practice that reaffirms the ethical and political approach, as a knowledge that is not all-encompassing and does not claim to be unambiguous.

Submitted by Marianna CEH/A (marianna.uerj@gmail.com) on 2025-01-09T13:37:27Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Andrea Ferioli Melo - 2023 - Completa.pdf: 1263203 bytes, checksum: 4bce3e5ba9d1b073d57c3507581f7d49 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Barbara Marques CEH/A (barbara.ribeiro@uerj.br) on 2025-01-09T13:38:51Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Andrea Ferioli Melo - 2023 - Completa.pdf: 1263203 bytes, checksum: 4bce3e5ba9d1b073d57c3507581f7d49 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2025-01-09T13:38:51Z (GMT).
