The main objective of this research is the relationship between family and nursery in a Carioca slums context. This study aims to investigate a real expectation of a group of families, especially the right of early childhood education at a public daycare, situated in Caju, Rio de Janeiro city. The wish of this search, beyond the questions which took me into it, was produced by my own experience as a nursery school teacher of different places of early years in Rio de Janeiro municipal education system. More than three decades after the promulgation of 1988 Federal constitution had introduced education at the scenario of social rights recognizing Childs as a citizen of law, what it s a challenge thinking about this question, mainly from the perspective of families living in territories of high social vulnerability. The main challenge of the research was to listen all these families, in order to understand what motivated them to enroll their children at the daycare, as well as what expectations would be behind the decision to institutionalize the education of their children. This is, then, a qualitative research of ethnographic inspiration with emphasis on the bibliographic study, having as main methodology, semi-structured interviews with families of children regularly enrolled in the daycare center investigated. The theoretical and methodological point of view, the course was carried out in dialogue with authors Damaris Gomes Maranhão & Cynthia Andersen Sarti, José Kuhlmann Junior, Nadir Zago, Manuel Jacinto Sarmento, René Barbier, Philippe Ariès, Pierre Bourdieu whom contributed decisively to the search experience, mainly to corroborate the importance of studies which focus one family relationship nursery in the demand for educational places in Rio de Janeiro.
