Resumo: Among chronic pain syndrome, characterized by the somatic symptoms, manifestations in the absence of an identified medical etiology , the fibromyalgia is one the most mysterious categories, due to the presence of several related symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, memory and focusing alterations and by a high co morbidity with anxiety and humor disturbances, especially with depression. Currently fibromyalgia affects up to 5% of the population and affects deeply the quality of life of diagnosed subjects, becoming an important problem in public health; such reality demands the increasing of related studies to this disease. Beginning with the bibliographic revision of the scientific publications about fibromyalgia in the last years (2010-2013), the study focused to achieve a better vision of the current approaches of the disease in terms of its understanding, classification, and diagnose. The results of this investigation, point out the existence of inherent problems to the ontological and epistemological conception of pain, such manifestations objectively and subjectively- physic pain / psychic pain- shuffle the comprehensive categories which define the modern vision of the human being in their different existential dimensions, complicating the construction of instruments for measuring and classificatory systems which enable a more sophisticated approach of the fibromyalgia.

Na atualidade, a fibromialgia atinge até 5% da população e afeta profundamente a qualidade de vida dos sujeitos diagnosticados, se instituindo como um importante problema de saúde pública, realidade que demanda o aumento dos estudos relativos à doença. Partindo da revisão bibliográfica das publicações cientificas sobre fibromialgia nos últimos anos (2010-2013), procurou-se alcançar uma melhor visão das abordagens contemporâneas sobre a doença em termos da sua compreensão, classificação e diagnóstico.
