Resumo: | This dissertation analyzes the translation of the tale "Missa do Galo" by Machado de Assis (1894; 1899) for the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) held in 2005 by Heloise Gripp Diniz. The present work is inserted in the Translation Studies of literary texts and can be situated in an area, in effect, the philososophy of Schleiermacher (1813), that they are; (i) Text Analysis and Translation, and (ii) Translation Process. The analysis of the translation of the tale in Libras by Diniz (2005) was done from the perspective of the strategies developed by Lawrence Venuti (1995), with observations about the translator's choices, without, therefore, evaluating them from the point of view of quality. In the course of the dissertation, concepts of Deaf Literature, Deaf Culture and cultural translation are integrated into the discussion in order to present theoretical assumptions that justify my translation observations. The suggestions presented here are preceded by a study of Machado and his style (irony, ellipse and ambiguity). In this way, it is possible to infer that a translation of Diniz points to adoption of strategies of foreignization and domestication depending on the context, which, contraty to what could be suggested, the above mentioned strategies are complementary due to the characteristics of the recipients of the Translation – bicultural bilingual deaf. |

O presente trabalho se insere nos Estudos da Tradução de Textos Literários e pode ser situado em uma área, com efeito, a filosofia de Schleiermacher (1813), que são elas: (i) Análise de texto e tradução (Text Analysis and Translation), e (ii) Processo de tradução (Translation Process). A análise da versão do conto em Libras de Diniz (2005) foi realizada sob a ótica do Projeto Minorizante, de Lawrence Venuti (1995), com observações a respeito das escolhas tradutórias da atriz-tradutora, sem, portanto, avaliá-las do ponto de vista da qualidade. No decorrer da dissertação, conceitos de Literatura Surda, Cultura Surda e tradução cultural são integrados à discussão, a fim de apresentar pressupostos teóricos que justifiquem minhas observações tradutórias As sugestões elencadas aqui são precedidas por um estudo sobre o autor e seu estilo (irônico elíptico e ambíguo).
