The public policy of national level studied in this work is the Law number 11.340, from August 7th, 2006, also known as Lei Maria da Penha, and it is considered a mark on the legislation of protection of women in the country. The objective of this research is to evaluate the protective procedures applied in women, victims of gender violence, followed up by the Assistance Group to the Victims of Violence, (abbreviated in Portuguese to GAVV), in the City of Sobral, Ceará State. For this, it was necessary to make a historical description about how the mentioned law was created, trying to understand its structure and mainly the importance of women on this creation. Furthermore, it was crucial to comprehend how the network of coping the violence is structured, focusing on the treatment of GAVV, and mostly investigate the impact of those protective procedures on the lives of women followed up by GAVV in Sobral. The proposed research - being of a exploratory feature - had as approach a qualitative search. As to the evaluative method, it has been used a perspective of evaluation of Silva (2008) which evaluates a policy according to its technical and political dimensions, understanding its effects. As to the data collection instruments, there were used surveys and semi-structured interviews. For the analysis of qualitative information, obtained through interviews, it was used a content analysis technique of Bardin (1977). About the results, it notes that protective procedures are important to women on a situation of violence, because they avoid the aggravation of it. Moreover, it was noticed that the accompaniment made by GAVV to the women has positive effects on them regarding the feeling of safety and on the withdrawal of the offender. In regards of the weaknesses, it has been noticed that the network of the coping of violence is not integrated to its actions, in this way the accompaniment of women on a situation of violence is ruined.
