Resumo: The main objective of this dissertation is to verify the competitiveness of brazilian exports in intemational market between 1987 and 1995. The theoretical foundations of the study come from the Technological Gap Trade theory of intemational trade. The methodology used consists, first, of the revealed comparative advantage indexes from Lafay and from Balassa, followed by the intemational market share of several brazilian exports sectors. The results show that the country has lost competitiveness in the intemational market in the technology frontier sectors as compared to other national exports sectors or as compared to the world exports value of this sectors. The country exports as a whole has also lost competitiveness in the intemational market during the period analysed .

Foi tomada como referencial teórico do estudo a teoria dos Hiatos Tecnológicos do Comércio Internacional. A metodologia usada consiste, primeiramente, no cálculo do Índice de Vantagens Comparativas de Lafay e de Balassa. Em seguida foi calculado a participação no mercado internacional ou market share de diversos setores da economia brasileira. Os resultados mostraram que o Brasil tem perdido competitividade no mercado internacional, em setores considerados de alta intensidade tecnológica, tanto quando comparados aos outros setores da pauta de exportação brasileira como quando comparados ao valor das exportações desses mesmos setores no mercado internacional.
