Resumo: | The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the processes used and reported by Wagner de Assis within the adaptation of the short story "A cartomante", published in 1884 by Machado de Assis, to the homonymous film directed by Pablo Uranga and Wagner de Assis, released in 2004, looking more specifically at the transformations within the process of writing, directing and editing of the script and the film. To base this discussion, it is debated the interchange between the arts and literature, with a special focus on the relationship with the cinema. These discussions raise questions on the role and social value of arts, their intrinsic quality, and how these questions are applied to the case of the film script as a work that has been adapted twice (first into a film and then into a published screenplay). On the debate between arts, we turn to Gliksohn (2004), on literature and cinema to Clerc (2004) and on the screenplay as a literary genre to Figueiredo (2007). Then, as theoretical basis to the analysis of the corpus, the definitions of the film script by Field (2001), Comparato (2000) and Carrière and Bonitzer (1996) will be discussed, reflected within the concept of intermediality developed by Rajewsky (2012), and complemented by Clüver (2007), considering the intermediary role of the scrip between the film and the literary work. Additionally, on the issue of the screenplay authorship Boozer (2008) and Figueiredo (2015) will be used, and on the authorship in the film adaptation process, understanding the creative processes of a translation activity, concepts used by Lefevere (2007), Cattrysse (1992), Hutcheon (2013) and Even-Zohar (2013) will be taken. Finally, it will carried out a contextualization of Machado de Assis' work, and a comparative analysis with Wagner de Assis' translation. |
