Tese (Doutorado em Geografia)-Universidade Federal do Ceará, Fortaleza, 2016.Are sharp gaps still exist about the phenomenon of desertification, in parallel to the growing framework of environmental degradation and in association with the geoenvironmental instability (ecological vocation) of the Brazilian semi-arid region. In this context, we highlight the core of desertification of Brazil as a pilot area for the analysis of a possible geoecológica predisposition. Specific objectives include the identification of geo-environmental systems do Seridó; the characterization of the surface structure of regional landscapes; the identification of potential indicators ecodinâmicos and predisposition to desertification; and the proposal of actions and alternatives for regional environmental planning. To do so, are methodological bases of this research, the study of the landscape from geossistêmica approaches, geoecology and landscape of ecodinâmica so arranged and adapted according to geomorphological analysis levels proposed by Ab'Saber (1969) – based on topographic vaulting, surface structure and physiology of the landscape. Among the results obtained it was found an interesting exchange and correlation of the physical-natural elements from different scales (global, regional and local), so then associated with certain predisposition to desertification. This, above all, an interesting spatialization of geo-environmental factors. On a regional scale, the climatic and morfotectônicos components would act as important aspects and controllers, local scale, these would reflect on fitossociológicos patterns.São nítidas as lacunas ainda existentes sobre o fenômeno da desertificação, em paralelo ao crescente quadro de degradação ambiental e em associação à instabilidade geoambiental (vocação ecológica) do semiárido brasileiro. Nesse contexto, destaca-se o núcleo de desertificação do Seridó como área-piloto de análise de uma possível predisposição geoecológica. Como objetivos específicos destacam-se a identificação dos sistemas geoambientais do Seridó; a caracterização da estrutura superficial de paisagens regionais; a identificação de indicadores potenciais ecodinâmicos e de predisposição à desertificação; e a proposição de ações e alternativas para o planejamento ambiental regional. Para tanto, são bases metodológicas dessa pesquisa, o estudo da paisagem a partir das abordagens geossistêmica, da geoecologia da paisagem e da ecodinâmica de modo organizados e adaptados de acordo com os níveis de analise geomorfológica propostos por Ab’Saber (1969) – com base na compartimentação topográfica, estrutura superficial e fisiologia da paisagem. Entre os resultados obtidos verificou-se uma interessante dialogicidade e correlação dos elementos físico-naturais, a partir de diferentes escalas (global, regional e local), de modo então associados à certa predisposição à desertificação. Esse decorrente, sobretudo, de uma interessante espacialização dos fatores geoambientais.
