The various economic oscillations, alongside to a highly competitive and globalized market model, have imposed changes in the posture of construction companies in the current market. These changes are perceived mainly in the way entrepreneurs manage their business, applying new methodologies and techniques. The incessant search for cost reduction and better delivery time in projects has been pushing towards the use of new management methods and models, mainly applied to production control and monitoring. It is in this context that the present research proposes the development and application of an earned value management model (EVM) to collaborate with the improvement in the control of construction works. Although EVM concepts emerged more than a century ago, it was only in the 1960s that the EVM was formally launched. Initially it was a rather complex system, so there were some incentives for wider use in the private sector. Nevertheless, there is a relatively small amount of scientific publications, mainly in Brazil. Making possible a greater exploration and investigation of subjects little or nothing studied. The main objective of this research is to present the development of a model of earned value management techniques, which can bring benefits to the control of construction works. The research methodology will be applied through Design Science Research and with a prescriptive approach, having a longitudinal design. The implementation of the model was carried out in three civil construction companies, composing a generic sample of cases. The evaluation of the model was carried out using interviews with structured questionnaire among the participants of the implementation. Validation of these results was done with the help of IRAMUTEQ software. The results obtained, in the development of the model, match the propositions seen in the theoretical reference, concluding that the EVM model effectively anticipated the objectives of the research.
