Histórias de amor sob a perspectiva da moralidade: um estudo comparativo entre mulheres casadas de duas gerações

The relationships are influenced by the social context in which they will be developed (Del Priore, 2012, Ferry, 2013), and at the context of the current moment can be considered unfavorable to the establishment of respectful relations (La Taille, 2009) required to develop moral autonomy, 1932/1994), and prone to fragile and unstable relationships (Bauman, 2004). Thus, the present study aimed to compare, from the perspective of morality, the discourses of married women of two generations on the choice of the partner at the beginning of the relationship and on the decision to marry. In order to reach this goal, we analyzed interviews with 30 married women aged between 20 and 30. The interviews were carried out in different periods - 1993 and 2013. The main results pointed out that the choice of starting the relationship is justified, in most cases, by the partner’s personal characteristics or on women's personal feelings. In this case, virtues such as respect, loyalty, patience and love were mentioned among the desired characteristics of the partner, but with lower frequency compared to other justifications. Conversely, the marriage decision was mainly explained by common personal aspects of the couple. Women expressed attention on characteristics, feelings, desires or common needs. On the other hand, the women interviewed in 1993 based their choice on feelings and wills, emphasizing their personal feelings from the beginning of the relationship. On what concerns to marriage, they considered,their as well as and her partner wills to be together, and the desire of other people about the achievement of marriage. On the other hand, those interviewed in 2013 highlighted more practical aspects expected from the new relationship, such as the partner’s personal characteristics in the first moment and secondly, financial stability and mutual acquaintance. The present research can corroborate to understand the processes involved in the establishment of current relationships. It can help in the design of intervention practices that aim to address the fragility of human bonds and to promote the construction of relationships based on mutual respect where the practice of moral autonomy is pledged.
