Resumo: Internal migration plays a significant role in shaping Brazil’s sociodemographic and territorial configuration, reflecting socioeconomic, cultural, and political transformations throughout history. In the Northeast, this dynamic is especially relevant, as the region continues to exhibit intense emigration flows, now marked by a diversification of destinations. This study, conducted in 2024, investigated the existence of a migration culture among young people living in medium-sized cities in the Brazilian Northeast. The specific objectives were to analyze the culture of migration among young people from the Northeast and the elements that comprise it, with attention to traditional media, digital networks and family networks. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining demographic data from national censuses, data extracted from the Google Trends tool, and information obtained through semi-structured questionnaires. These were applied at Federal Institutes (IFs) located in the cities of Sobral (CE), Mossoró (RN), and Caruaru (PE), focusing on young people aged 18 to 29. The results indicated that migration reflects not only regional inequalities but also the aspirations and the role of social networks in shaping and sustaining migration culture today. Beyond economic factors, aspirations related to education, quality of life, and cultural belonging play a fundamental role in the decision to migrate. Approximately 65% of the young respondents expressed interest in migrating, mainly to the Southeast region, motivated by expectations of better living conditions and opportunities. Moreover, 73% reported using virtual social networks and digital media as their main source of information for migration planning, highlighting the central role of these platforms in organizing and disseminating information about destinations and support networks. The study also found that both traditional and digital media contribute to the dissemination of information and expand the possibilities for planning and organizing migration trajectories, while family networks provide practical and emotional support. Additionally, the migration imaginary is shaped by media representations and cultural narratives that often reinforce stereotypes but also inspire new desires for mobility and belonging. Thus, the research concluded that youth migration in the Northeast is a plural and multifaceted process shaped not only by economic factors but also by social, cultural, and symbolic dimensions, confirming the relevance of migration culture in the set of ideas young people.

Thus, the research concluded that youth migration in the Northeast is a plural and multifaceted process shaped not only by economic factors but also by social, cultural, and symbolic dimensions, confirming the relevance of migration culture in the set of ideas young people.
