The brazilian family farming represents a significant socioeconomic role segment, both by the number of establishments, as well as the participation in food production, generation of jobs and income in rural areas. In order to answer to the thread of family farmers arises, in 1996, the National Programme for the Strengthening of Family Farming – PRONAF, that serves lines of funding and investment. The access to the program by the family farmers can be understood through different guidelines and factors, being this rationality more complex when it involves investment operations, whereas these are higher-value operations and its consequences may be more noticeable. In this context is that the present study sought to analyse the use of the PRONAF investment by the family farmer of Campina das Missões/RS. Given that, for the development of the study was carried out a field research, by applying the data collection instrument to 91 farmers of the town, who accessed the PRONAF Investment during the period from 2012 to 2015. The analysis of the collected data was done by descriptive statistical techniques, for description of the sample and Chi-square tests, Fisher's exact and Mann-Whitney to study the facts influencers. It was possible to verify that the family farmers who accessed the PRONAF investment had, in general, as main orientation the intrinsic one. It was also observed that there is relationship between guidelines and characteristics of units. In relation to the variables of PRONAF that contributed to the participation in the program, the interest rate and payment term were the two most importante ones, and there is no relationship between these variables and the characteristics of the analyzed production units. It was identified different ways of allocation of investments made through the program, which generated positive repercussions especially at work and in the activities (40,9%) carried out by the farmers, as well as brought economic (24,4%), social (17,5%) and personal (11,2%) results. Thus, the study contributes with important information related to the public policy PRONAF Investment.
