Resumo: This paper aims to analyze how is presented in the works Barefoot Gen and Eternal Zero the Japanese nationalism in World War II and the influence of the time of production for the discussion about it. Both works were made at different times. Barefoot Gen was made between 1973 and 1985, and takes place in the final months of World War II, until 1950. Eternal Zero is an adaptation of the best-selling book in Japanese history, published in 2006, and the manga is from 2013. This work takes place in two fictional times: the current one and during World War II. The analysis will consist on the study of the works as to what is characterized as Japanese nationalism, its propaganda and the attitudes that the population in Barefoot Gen and the population and the military, especially the Kamikazes in Eternal Zero, took in the name of the Japanese sovereignty and in the name of the emperor. The main objective is to understand the differences in these representations, whether there are permanences in the discourses or major differences among them, since these are very popular works in Japan, with translation to several other languages, and especially that were produced at two different times.

As duas obras foram feitas em tempos distintos, tanto o ficcional quanto o de produção. Gen Pés Descalços foi publicado entre 1973 e 1985, e se passa nos meses finais da segunda guerra mundial, até 1950. Zero Eterno é adaptação do livro mais vendido da história do Japão, lançado em 2006, e o mangá é de 2013. A obra se passa em dois tempos ficcionais: o atual e durante a segunda guerra mundial. A análise consistirá no estudo das publicações quanto ao que se caracteriza como nacionalismo japonês, sua propaganda e as atitudes que a população, em Gen Pés descalços, e a população e os militares, especialmente os kamikazes, em Zero Eterno, tomavam em nome da soberania japonesa e do imperador.
